Old Business

Reminder from FRRRW Committee Co-Chairs Drs. Brad Kesser and Alan Beckenstein regarding the upcoming webinar on Open Enrollment/Benefits on Tuesday, October 5 at 5:00 PM

New Business

Chair-Elect Jim Lambert created a LinkedIn page for the Faculty Senate. Please link to: UVA Faculty Senate and share with your colleagues.

Notice of new concentrations in AAC Co-Chairs Sue Saliba and Brian Wright in Religious Studies. These are subdegrees and information has been emailed to all Senators.  After a week it will approved.

“From Chapel Hill to Charlottesville: Battles Fought, Lessons Learned, Strength for the Journey “ Presentation and Q&A with our Distinguished Guest:  Dr. Mimi Chapman; Frank A. Daniels Distinguished Professor and Past Senate Chair, UNC Chapel Hill discussed politics coming onto campus and how UNC dealt with it.

Presentation by Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Dr. Brie Gertler on the University’s advising initiatives. Advising Task Force submitted their recommendations and these are the implementations.

  1. New Landing Page for students. UVA Homepage then Information for Students. This page provides a comprehensive front door to advising resources: academic, career, health, opportunities to join clubs, public service, student financial services, student and residential life. It is accessible and intuitive to users not familiar with UVA.

  2. New advising program Stellic. Stellic is a software platform for students that makes course planning easier, allow students to run “what if” scenarios, and would facilitate advisor communications.  Ready for all undergraduate schools in Fall of 2024. Later, advisor tools will added after they are piloted in Engineering.

Committee Chair Updates: 
Eric Ramirez-Weaver – Tribal Liaison planning Pow Wow in April and Dean of Admissions, Greg Roberts, will come and talk to Faculty Senate in October or November.

From EXCO: Tichara Robertson Lewis and Andreas Masiakos from the Student Council reached out and asked to have a tighter link to Faculty Senate. They came to EXCO and did a presentation.
John Kosky, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer is collecting information around professional staff working in person, remote, or hybrid and whether there should there be a universal policy on this issue.

Priority items for upcoming meetings:
1. Issue of representation of colleagues around grounds (Librarians)
2. Faculty concerns around SDAC

EXCO is meeting on October 20 in Madison Hall then the full Senate will meet on October 27 in Rouss Robertson.
