Resolution in Support of University Presidents

WHEREAS the UVA Faculty Senate has encouraged President Ryan to collaborate with other University Presidents to celebrate the values and contributions of public and private institutions of higher learning to the Commonwealth and the nation; and

WHEREAS President Ryan joined the presidents of 35 other public and private universities belonging to the prestigious American Association of Universities, and over two hundred other universities and postsecondary associations, in signing the April 22, 2025 AAC&U statement, which expresses principles that are essential to upholding UVA’s mission, reputation and operations; and

WHEREAS President Ryan’s signature on the letter is a reaffirmation of UVA’s established policy (August 2024 University Statement on Institutional Statements and June 2021 UVA Statement on Free Expression and Free Inquiry); therefore be it

RESOLVED that the UVA Faculty Senate proudly affirms and supports this action.
