Resolution Honoring President Teresa A. Sullivan
WHEREAS, Teresa A. Sullivan was elected by the University of Virginia Board of Visitors to become the University’s eighth President and first woman President; and
WHEREAS, President Sullivan has consistently and productively engaged the Faculty Senate and has been a champion of shared governance, raising faculty salaries, and improving funding for research; and
WHEREAS, President Sullivan assembled and supported a leadership team that promoted excellence in operations, academics, and healthcare, including the selection of Pat Hogan, Tom Katsouleas, and Rick Shannon; and

Resolution Regarding Scheduling Exams on Election Day
In response to a request from student leadership regarding their desire to become more actively engaged in political activities on Election Day, the Faculty Senate encourages faculty to make reasonable accommodations with respect to scheduling exams on Election Day.

Statement on "Unite the Right" Event
The Faculty Senate Executive Council and the General Faculty Council strongly condemn the hatred, violence, and intimidation that the supporters of the recent "Unite the Right" event brought to the Charlottesville community and the University of Virginia. We repudiate the white supremacist, white nationalist, and neo-Nazi ideologies lying at the heart of these actions.
Statement on US President's Immigration Executive Order
The President’s recent executive order banning entry to the United States of citizens from seven predominately Muslim countries, as well as refugees from all countries, is a moral outrage. It threatens lives and divides families, including those of students, staff, and faculty of the University of Virginia. It also threatens the basic values of inclusiveness, equality, and respect for human dignity that we stand for as a university in the public trust.
